Stand Up/Speak Out: A User's Guide to Citizenship

Presented by the Summit Municipal Democratic Committee, “Stand Up/Speak Out: A User’s Guide to Democracy” will provide a practical introduction to effective community participation. The event will feature current and former elected officials, local party leaders and other active citizens sharing their experience and insights on subjects including:

  • Identifying and contacting elected officials at the local, state and federal levels

  • Planning, fundraising and promoting events and other civic activities

  • Social media as a tool for civic engagement

  • Understanding local issues and motivating others to support a cause

“Stand Up/Speak Out: A User’s Guide to Democracy” aims to increase awareness of how to influence public policy at the local, state and federal levels; and empower participants to take action to address areas of concern affecting our community and the country.
