The Summit Democrats presented the second program in their Stand Up/Speak Out Series on Thursday, April 27 at 7pm in the Summit High School cafeteria.
Stand Up/Speak Out: Eyes on November, focused on the 2017 elections and featured the Democratic candidates for Governor, State Senate and Assembly, and Summit Common Council. The evening started with an update on the grassroots organizations with an emphasis on how individuals can get involved.
The first program, Stand Up/Speak Out: A User’s Guide to Democracy, drew a crowd of over 150 people from Summit and surrounding towns. Moderated by Terri Tauber, the topics covered were: how to effectively communicate with your representative; an overview of some of the newer grassroots groups; and engaging youth and managing social media. The purpose was to provide tools and resources to help people who were interested in having their voices heard at all levels of government.
